No two artists intrepret a scene the same way...Friday's acrylic class

It's always so much fun to me how everyone paints something so completely different from the same photo. Love that.   I think I'm finally recovered from my two week trip to Michigan.  Took awhile to get back in the swing of things.  I really had fun with family and friends and the two workshops I taught.  Working on schedules now for four workshops there next year.  Can't wait to go back.

Fear of a blank canvas

Has anyone every been frightened by one of these....a blank canvas?  Can be pretty intimidating at times.  How about when you've got a group of people standing behind you waiting for you to create a masterpiece!
This will eventually become a bouquet of sunflowers.  Very work-in-progress at the moment.

Painting at Saks for Mother's Day

For Mother's Day Saks hired me to paint little designs on perfumes bottles the day before Mother's Day. Anyone who purchases perfume at Saks the entire week can bring it in today and have a custom design painted on the bottle.  I created a few suggestions on glass and framed it so people could get ideas in case they didn't know what they wanted.  I had to find a way to paint that would be dry immediately.  I found these great acrylic pens.  They are like a felt tip pen, but filled with acrylic paint. Not easy to blend, so the designs are more quick-draw, sketch-like. They are not permanent, but will at least be fun temporarily. It was a fun afternoon.

Yes, We Have Some Banana

Someone came into the gallery the other day asking for a painting of a banana. It was to be a gift for a friend. The gallery said, "Sorry, we have no bananas." They didn't know I had this one hiding in a stack, long forgotten. It was a sketch for a 4-foot tall oil that I did eons ago. I completely forgot about it til they mentioned the request. The canvas for the oil actually warped with a curve along the right side matching the curve of the banana. It was an accident, but it looked like a custom canvas. It was a fun piece to paint.
