Rustic Roses daily painting

I'm trying to loosen up and do work that's a bit less detailed. Many of the paintings that I really admire have extremely loose brushstrokes. Not as easy at it looks. Seems it takes a lot of effort to look effortless. One of my favorite quotes is Thomas Jefferson's "If I had more time I'd write shorter letters." I was reading about the daily painters, and one fellow mentioned that he set a timer for 30 minutes. That was the time allowed for his paintings, no more. I would never feel that mine are finished in that short a time. Though it might be an interesting experiment. I spend 3 to 4 hours on each. And, that does not include time spent coming up with the idea and setting up the still life. Desperate Housewife

I thought this "Painted Rose" was going to be a charming little painting of a rose in an antique canning jar. But, instead it looks like an angry farm wife wearing an old-fashioned bonnet with her hand propped defiantly on her hip. Oh well.
