American Art Collector....Advertising Pays

"Where's the Vodka" one of my mini-oil, painting-a-day series was advertised in the June issue of American Art Collector magazine. It sold yesterday to a collector who saw it in the June issue. Advertising really does pay....and so does patience :-} See the current ad in the December issue, and see more of my mini oils on my website www.DianeMorganPaints.com

In the Spotlight

This is my favorite setting again...."sunset" with cadmium orange in the highlights and alizarin crimson in the shadows. Recognize the vase, Lynn?

I was reading about the daily painters, and one fellow mentioned that he set a timer for 30 minutes. That was the time allowed for his paintings, no more. I would never feel that mine are finished in that short a time. Though it might be an interesting experiment. I spend 3 to 4 hours on each. And, that does not include time spent coming up with the idea and setting up the still life. Moroccan Arches

The passageways of Morocco are beautiful with their ancient walls and rich colors.....beautiful, yet forbidding and foreboding. This 8" x 5-3/4" oil on gallery-wrap canvas is available for $150 on my website www.DianeMorganPaints.com

Desperate Housewife

I thought this "Painted Rose" was going to be a charming little painting of a rose in an antique canning jar. But, instead it looks like an angry farm wife wearing an old-fashioned bonnet with her hand propped defiantly on her hip. Oh well. This 5-3/4" x 8" oil on gallery-wrap canvas is available for $150 on my website www.DianeMorganPaints.com But, after the angry farm wife description who would want to buy it ?

Windy Palms

On windy days the swaying palms display the most beautiful patterns of sparkling light in the fronds. This 5-3/4" x 8" oil on gallery-wrap canvas is available for $150 on my website http://www.dianemorganpaints.com/

Pear Flambe

Flames are intriguing. Dangerous and colorful. I thought it would be interesting to paint a pear on the burner. Very interesting indeed.... the flames shot up and caught the leaves on fire. Had to work fast! This 5-3/4" x 8" oil on gallery-wrap canvas is available for $150 on my website www.DianeMorganPaints.com

Heirlooms

There's something about the past that seems better than today. These heirloom tomatoes certainly have more character than today's tomatoes. Food today is so perfect, round, no imperfections. These heirlooms are much more interesting to paint. This 5-3/4" x 8" on gallery-wrap canvas is available for $150 on my website http://www.dianemorganpaints.com/

The Wrath of Grapes

A friend named their vineyard "The Wrath of Grapes" Thought is was a great title for a grape painting. I originally painted these grapes in watercolor. Wanted to do an oil version, also.
I like subjects that have shine, reflection and shadows. This has all three. This 5-3/4" x 8" oil on gallery-wrap canvas is available for $150 on my website http://www.dianemorganpaints.com/

Sir Winston's Magnolias

Sir Winston Churchill was a devoted painter. He felt it took the mind away from worries. He did several paintings of magnolias so I did this in his honor. One exercise he recommended was to study and devour a picture, and then, without looking at it again, attempt the next day to reproduce it.....great observation and memory training. His book "Painting as a Pastime" is an interesting read. This 5-3/4"x 8" oil on gallery-wrap canvas is available for $150 on my website www.DianeMorganPaints.com

Cherry Harvest

This was an adorable little gal who agreed to pose for me in the midst of her work picking cherries in an orchard in Washington state. "Sunset" colors again with Alizarin Crimson in the shadow areas and Cadmium Orange in the highlights. Chocolate Apples

The apples aren't really chocolate but the carved wood they were sitting on reminded me of chocolate. This is another "sunset" lighting effect. These are green apples. Notice, though, that I hardly used any green to paint them. Mostly they are Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Orange and Alizarin Crimson.

Oleander Dreams

These small flowers might go unnoticed on the large poisonous Oleander hedge. They are really very lovely and delicate flowers. The original scene was daylight lighting. I changed it to moonlight. It's a Birdie!

This is a little play-on-words attempt at humor. The color scheme is "sunset" with Cadmium Orange in the highlights and Alizarin Crimson in the shadows. This 5-3/4" x 8" oil on gallery-wrap canvas is available for $150 on my website http://www.dianemorganpaints.com/ SOLD

Midnight in Pearadise

This is another Moonlight color combination. Night skies start with Ultramarine Blue and transition to Alizarin Crimson in the distance. Highlights are affected with Phthalo Green and white which gives a turquoise hue.
