As a kid, for Christmas we gave my grandfather a box of chocolate covered cherries and a carton of Lucky Strike cigarettes every year. He said that's what he wanted. This little devil took forever...three days, actually. Instead of a daily I'm going to call it a thraily. I could have painted a full-size watercolor in the same amount of time. Etude #3 "Mountain Lake" daily painting

This place was a beautiful lake alongside a bike path in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. I rode 60 miles in two days along this path. It's called the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes bike path and follows the Union Pacific Railroad's right-of-way. What a beautiful trip. "Mountain Lake" 5" x 7" on Raymar panel. "Deserted Isle" daily painting

The art of fun....or should it be.... the fun of art. I'm trying something completely different. I bought a ton of little 5" x 7" Raymar panels and am trying some quick studies. Since I took 7 years of French I'm going to call them etudes. All those lessons finally put to some use. For this landscape I used very liquid washes of oil and really enjoyed the freedom. Just made the scene up and called it quits after 20 minutes. Using a small panel instead of a stretched canvas removes some of the angst of feeling that you have to create a detailed masterpiece every time. This was very relaxing and satisfying.
