"Sunkissed" watercolor featured in book about joy

Just received notice that the book by Mary O'Connor "Life is Full of Sweet Spots" featuring my watercolor "Sunkissed" is now available at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. My sunflower is used to illustrate a story about a woman who used flowers to get through rough times.

Sunflowers, as it turns out, are one of Barbara’s favorite flowers.
It’s the little brown face, surrounded with sun rays—it just seems to be a happy face. They stand so tall and aggressive. There’s something about them that makes you happy.

Sunflower watercolor demo at Trilogy art club

Had 22 students this morning at a watercolor club that meets every Tuesday. They started early and kept going even after I left.  Hard-working group that loves to learn.  This is two hour's worth of demo.  I keep starting new pieces with each of these classes.  Have no idea when I'll get to finish any of them.  Being busy is a good problem :-}

Fear of a blank canvas

Has anyone every been frightened by one of these....a blank canvas?  Can be pretty intimidating at times.  How about when you've got a group of people standing behind you waiting for you to create a masterpiece!
This will eventually become a bouquet of sunflowers.  Very work-in-progress at the moment.

Three Big Macs

Three Big Macs.  11"x 13" watercolor on paper.  Demo from Friday's Grand Opening at Venus Studios Art Supply.   I varnished this.  It really makes the colors pop.  I had used this as a demo for a class last winter. "Into the Sunset" one-hour demo

This is a one-hour demo done today for a local art group. I've done this scene before, but each time it's a little different.   Lovely lunch first, then demo. Watercolor, 19" x 13. " The group meets often at their clubhouse for classes and demos.   Great group.  One lady is a board member of the Gibsons Art School in British Columbia.  She wants me to teach a 5-day workshop summer of 2014.  I'm so excited.  It's a beautiful area and a great school. "Into the Mist" class demo. Day 2 of Leslie Saeta's 30 paintings in 30 days challenge

This is another demo from one of last week's classes. I rearranged the boats a bit from the reference photo, and I didn't like what was in the background so, decided to turn it into fog.  I rarely can finish a painting in a  2-hour class and this was no exception.  Took another couple hours today to finish.  Watercolor on 300# Arches cold press  9-1/2" x 11"

Rose of a Different Color. Oil vs watercolor demo

I finally finished the watercolor version of the rose from last week's class.  The oil is 6" x 8" on canvas.  The watercolor is 10" x 12" on Arches 300# cold press.  I won't be able to do the comparison painting of oil vs watercolor for a couple weeks.  I will only be doing watercolor until mid January. Next week, besides Saturday's watercolor class, I will be doing two demos....one for an art group and another for the grand opening of the local art supply store where my classes are held.  Lots of prep work to do.  Gonna be a busy week.

Another workshop at Sun City

Workshop at Sun City Palm Desert

Had 15 students yesterday in a fun watercolor workshop at Sun City Palm Desert.  They have such a wonderful group of classrooms for all kinds of learning. Even have an in-house restaurant down the hall. "Cocktail Hour" oil class demo

"Super Fly" watercolor demo

Demo from a watercolor class a couple weeks ago.  Just finished it this morning so didn't get it in done in time for the "bug challenge" on www.ArtColony.blogspot.com My students wanted to learn how to do water drops.  I thought it would be much more fun with a fly in the mix.  How to do water drops is the number one request that I get.  Second is chrome.  "Super Fly" 10-1/2" x 13" watercolor on 300# Arches cold press.

This was the demo from class this morning.  Normally I would have done the background in the upper left first, but my students wanted to concentrate on learning to paint a wine glass. 2-1/2 hours isn't much time. I show the photo to point out how distorted a photograph can be.  It's so important to correct the shapes, which aren't always correct in a photo. Also, to edit the composition as needed.
