"Martini Sunrise" accidental idea

Not tequila sunrise, but  “Martini Sunrise.”  

I inadvertently leaned my martini painting up against a recent landscape. Top half is an oil; bottom a watercolor.  I thought …….hmmmmmm…… I might have something here.  I think I will have to paint this combo.

This was the demo from class this morning.  Normally I would have done the background in the upper left first, but my students wanted to concentrate on learning to paint a wine glass. 2-1/2 hours isn't much time. I show the photo to point out how distorted a photograph can be.  It's so important to correct the shapes, which aren't always correct in a photo. Also, to edit the composition as needed. Joined at the Hip Olives daily painting

I love painting olives. Some paintings are a struggle and some are a breeze. These olives were fun! I've painted these before, but was drawn to paint them again with a more muted color palette. When I first began painting I always worked from life. With the advent of digital photography and home printing I switched to working from photos. Painting from life feels more authentic. This time while using the photo as a composition reference I set out olives to view for color. It was great having the olive smell in the room. It made the painting feel more real. Upon completion I ate the olives...yum. Available at Daily Paintworks
